Power bi desktop cost upgrade#
Direct purchase of or upgrade to Pro isn't available to educational organizations or organizations deployed to Azure Government or Azure China 21Vianet clouds. Users may upgrade their license type to Pro, or sign up for Pro directly, if the organization is using the commercial cloud. A capacity-based Premium subscription allows users with free licenses to access any content, but only users with a Pro or Premium Per User license can create content. A Premium Per User license limits access to these features to other users who also have a Premium Per User license. A Power BI Premium subscription unlocks access to a variety of features, capabilities, and types of content that are only available through Premium.
A Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium Per User license is required to share content. With a free license, users can explore Power BI for personal data analysis and visualization using My Workspace, but they can't share with other users. Individual users can get their own Power BI license by signing up with their work or school account.
